Bay Village Neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts

Bay Village in Boston Massachusetts is home to many examples of classical architecture. Originally, mudflats were unbuildable, but many craftsmen from Beacon Hill landed in the neighborhood to work in the city's industries. In addition to blacksmiths, sailors, musical instrument makers, and ropemakers were among the first residents of Bay Village. The neighborhood has even been called the Church Street District. Its name refers to the neighborhood's watery origin and small Bay Street.

Built-in the late Victorian period, the castle-like building now known as The Castle is a landmark. Made of granite blocks cut to look "rustic," this building evokes medieval architecture. Today, the Castle is owned by the Park Plaza Hotel, where a variety of events, conferences, trade shows, and exhibits take place. In the early 20th century, the area became the center of the film industry in Boston.

As one of the most charming neighborhoods in Boston, Bay Village has an air of calmness and charm. Its quaint streets lined with gas lights evoke an atmosphere of a small town. Though Boston's smallest official neighborhood, is surrounded by powerhouse neighborhoods including Back Bay Neighborhood, Bay Village still enjoys a unique mix of culture and ethnicities.
